E B McDonald Ltd develops prototypes, design/builds customised production line machinery and special purpose machines. We are looking for a Machinery/Conveyor Design Engineer with the ability to apply design & development skills at layout, component and assembly levels.
To complete our design team you will need to have broad mechanical design experience and have taken machine design projects from concept to prototype (not always successfully!). Most new components you'll be designing will be light fabrications, machined or sheet metal parts.
Ideally, you will have an engineering trade background and worked with design in a small general engineering workshop and then moved on to a larger, more disciplined, company only to find something missing – that hands-on involvement and sense of personal achievement. Somewhere in your career you will have been involved in the design and manufacture of conveyors and have gained familiarity with production processes associated with conveying and materials handling (food, horticulture, mining, etc).
You will spend a lot of time each week in front of a computer (Inventor) but will also contribute to brainstorming sessions, do "proof of concept" work in the workshop and work closely with the workshop team. At the point where a machine needs to be built, you may be involved in the assembly and in the installation and commissioning.
To contribute most effectively to the design team, you should not be afraid to speak your mind and not be too defensive about your designs.
Because this is a role where you will be explaining ideas and working with a range of people both within the company and outside the company you’re conversational and written English will need to be clearly understood by all (including deaf engineers).
You will be offered a competitive package if you are the right person for this role.
